The 3 Faces

When I first started to paint in the 1980's, I used lot of water with paint to draw my paintings that were never bigger than a page A4. I like to produce very light paintings with colorful figures or scenes. I prefered drawing abstract and symbolic paintings more than realistic scenes such as portraits and landscapes. My favorite painting theme focuses on women's identity.

The "3 Graces" shows a woman moving, dancing, singing, and living in a dynamics of expressions with 3 faces: one smiling (right side), one angry, and one praying. Why 3 expressions at the same time? I think a woman lives with several contracditions: while happy, she already worries and thinks about next ... Such a painting attempts to capture the different emotions and feelings that inhabit women's heart and difficulties to reconcile work, home and personal dreams. Because of gender inequity, I think women of all cultures experience constant contradiction within their gender roles. However, by expressing and verbally saying the contraduction, I think the contradictions with the dense emotions could help women to remain true, sincer, and to exist socially even if sometimes they have to hide their contraductions in public.
