Poem: A Piece of Hmong Elderly Love

Her
Her first husband,
txiv nraug txha noog (destined love) passed away. She did not get remarried until her children got old. Twenty years later, she decided to rebuild her life with another man who passed away after a five- year common life. Then arrived the third husband, the good one that she loves. He is younger than her of seven years. But what do those seven years mean
to a woman at about 75 years old?
Only love makes sense.

Him

He chose to get married with another woman.
This second wedding lasted five years before she left him. Then arrived the third wife,
the good one that he loves.
She is older than him of seven years.
But what do those seven years mean
to a man at about 68 years old?
Only love makes sense.

Poems Poesie Paj Huam : Elderly Love
One evening, after an interview with an Elderly couple on health issues,
where they seem so happy together, I decided to write this small piece about love because Elderly love seems having no age and social barrier anymore.

You are 75 years old, I am 68 years old and I love you.
Koj muaj 75 xyoos, kuv muaj 68 xyoo es kuv hlub koj.

This is a beautiful love story between a 68 year-old man and a 75 year-old woman.

Both have hypertension and diabetes;
but it seems for them that love helps them to endure illness and to keep hope.
