Nkauj Chanson Song: Four Walls (Plaub phab phab
ntsa)
Translation of Randy Travis’ Song
Randy Travis’ Website: www.randytravis.com
I really love this song because it
reminds me my parents’ life in Laos and the one of many Hmong in the Fresno
area where they are farmers. They live surrounding by 4 walls, many children, two
livers and one true love. Although their difficult life, many of them still
believe that it is the best life. They work hard because they think they have
to have everything that their children need. They keep going for years until
the day of their passing.

My Grandpa
farmed for a livin',
Content to live the simpler kind of life.
My Grandma worked in the kitchen,
Awfully proud to be that farmer's wife.
They used to say that they'd got everything that they need,
Each mornin' they wake up:
Four walls, three words, two hearts, one love.
Kuv yawg ua teb es thiaj tau noj
Muaj ntsej muag
heev ua ib tug neeg ua teb tus poj
niam.
Nkawv ib txwm hais tias nkawv tau
txhua tsav yam nkawv xav tau,
Txhua tag kis, thaum nkawv sawv los:
(Muaj)
plaub phab phab ntsa, peb lo lus, ob lub siab, ib txoj kev hlub.
Here I am,
ring on my finger:
Grandpa's little grandson, all grown up.
I found my rock and I plan to keep her.
I wish they were here to see the two of us.
They'd proud to know we've got everything that we need,
Each mornin' we wake up:
Four walls, three words, two hearts, one love.
Kuv mus txog lawm, ib lub nplaib khuam kuv tes:
Yawg tus me tus xeeb ntxwv, zaum no loj lawm.
Kuv nrhiav tau kuv lub roob ces kuv xav nrog nws nyob mus li.
Kuv xav kom nkawv tseem nyob pom wb ob leeg.
Nkawv yuav zoo siab hais tias zaum no wb muaj txhua tsav yam uas
wb xav tau,
Txhua tag kis, thaum wb sawv los:
(Muaj) plaub phab phab ntsa, peb lo lus, ob lub
siab, ib txoj kev hlub.
With the
highway twice as wide,
And the farmland sub-divided.
It's good to know that some things never change.
I'm still lovin' an I'm still livin',
By those simple words of wisdom:
Life an' love come down to just four things.
Nyob hauv txoj kev loj dav ob npaug,
Nrog cov av faib ua tsheej thaj teb.
Zoo siab hais tias tseem paub tias muaj tej yam uas yeej tsis
hloov li.
Kuv tseem muaj kev sib hlub thiab ua neej nyob,
Los ntawm zaj lus qhuab qhia ua neej no:
Lub neej thiab kev sib hlub yog plaub yam xwb.
My Grandpa,
Lord knows, I miss him,
An' the way that he and Grandma looked at life.
And each day, I count my blessings,
To have that kind of love here by my side.
No matter what, we know we've got everything that we need,
Each mornin' we wake up:
Four walls, three words, two hearts, one love.
Kuv yawg, ntuj yeej paub, kuv tshua nws heev,
Nrog nws thiab kuv pog nkawv
kev tsim nkawv ob leeg lub neej.
Es txhua hnub, kuv suav ntsoov tej txiaj ntsim,
Uas ntsib kev sib hlub zoo ua luaj no sawv ntsug roos kuv ib
sab.
Txawm muaj dab tsi los, peb paub tias
peb tau txhua tsav yam uas peb xav tau,
Txhua tag kis, thaum peb sawv los:
(Muaj) plaub phab phab ntsa, peb lo lus, ob lub siab, ib txoj
kev hlub.
Yeah, we've got everything that we need,
Between the two of us:
Four walls, three words, two hearts, one love.
Aub, peb tau txhua tsav yam uas peb xav tau,
Nyob wb ob leeg xub ntiag:
(Muaj) plaub phab phab ntsa, peb lo
lus, ob lub siab, ib txoj kev hlub.
